Elopak drives into new markets with Utsikt wiper fluid
DRIV Energi is making a splash in the motoring product sector with its Utsikt wiper fluid in cartons. The product entered supermarkets, and motoring retailers’ shelves in October 2024.
DRIV Energi’s sales manager Bernt Rognlien describes the five year journey to Utsikt’s launch. “I first introduced the concept of wiper fluid in cartons in 2019 based on an idea to offer environmentally friendly, non-plastic packaging that reduces the carbon footprint,” explains Bernt. “Traditionally washer fluid is supplied in plastic packaging, and we wanted to find a greener way to package washer fluid – and we found it!”
With DRIV Energi’s vision for a sustainable future, the company has invested in a new brand. Utsikt is launched as a sustainable alternative to washer fluid in plastic packaging and is produced on a new filling carton line at DRIV’s factory in Kongsvinger. DRIV has plans to expand and develop its operations with a new state-of-the-art factory to be built at Nebbenes, located near Oslo airport, due to be completed in 2026.
Reducing plastic for a product sold in millions
“Utsikt is an important product for both DRIV and the market, being environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and easier to use and recycle,” says Linn Murphy, Marketing Manager.
“By switching to the carton, we avoid unnecessary plastic production and reduce plastic consumption for a product that is sold in millions of units every year.”

Elopak was instrumental in supporting the commercial launch of Utsikt. “When it comes to selecting a partner for packaging, Elopak has proven to be the ideal choice. The company’s experience in the retail sector, combined with its innovative packaging solutions made Elopak an invaluable asset in the development of Utsikt,” adds Bernt Rognlien.
“Elopak’ s packaging expertise has played a crucial role in making UTSIKT a standout product.”

“By replacing plastic with carton, we reduce both plastic use and CO2 emissions. Each 2 liter D-PAK™ carton saves 50 grams of plastic and 300 grams of CO2. In addition, we have made transport more efficient by increasing the load rate of the trucks by 33%,” explains Linn Murphy. “The cartons are delivered flat-packed to the factory which takes up far less space than plastic cans, which contributes to increased efficiency and a significant reduction of the CO2 footprint.”
DRIVE with meaning
Since its launch retailers have praised the Utsikt carton packaging as it aligns with their sustainability goals and aims to reduce their environmental footprint. Consumers also appreciate the recyclability of the cartons plus the ease of use particularly the pourability.
“We are proud to offer an environmentally friendly product that is at full speed into the market! For us, it is “DRIVE with meaning”. For the market, it is a sustainable, simple, and affordable solution when the vehicle needs a top-up!”
