Arla expands Milka brand with new chocolate milk range
Arla has launched, with Mondelēz International, a new range of Milka chocolate milk products, opening a new category hitting a major milestone in the Milka brand’s history.
The European dairy cooperative and global brand Arla has signed a licensing agreement with US-based Mondelēz, and owner of the Milka brand since 2012. The new contract enables Arla to distribute and market chocolate milk under the iconic lilac purple Milka brand across Germany, Austria and Poland.
The new Milka chocolate milk range was launched in June 2024 and come in three different pack sizes and three different flavours: Original Chocolate, Caramel and Noisette. The range includes a 750ml Pure-Pak® carton selected by Arla for both its quality image and environmental credentials.
Leif Petersen, Head of Commercial Chocolate Milk / Senior Commercial Development Manager at Arla Foods.“The main reason for choosing Pure-Pak™ cartons is, that we think it is a great match for strong consumer brands, as it has a very premium appeal and helps our Milka products to stand out on shelf. In addition, it delivers strong on sustainability.”
With this launch, Arla Foods is expanding its portfolio with one of the Europe’s most popular chocolate brands. Utilizing the strong brand recognition and consumer loyalty of Milka, Arla Foods will leverage its expertise in dairy innovation and quality and secure growth in the very mature chocolate milk category. With this product innovation, consumers will now have the option of indulging in the iconic Milka flavour in the form of a chocolate milk.
Introduced in 1901 by Suchard, Milka is today one of the world’s most beloved and recognisable chocolate brands. Over 150,000 Milka products are sold around the world in over 15 countries. The new chocolate milk range is produced at Arla Foods’ dairy in Esbjerg Denmark.
Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Arla Foods, Patrik Hansson.“Milka is a beloved brand and I know we have the production, commercial and marketing expertise to take it to the next level which is why our ambition is clear: We want to achieve number 1 or 2 positions in our launch markets.”
